Helpful Storage Hints
- Pack your items effectively…a small well packed unit costs less than a larger unit in which the contents are poorly arranged
- Place contents, especially mattresses and sofas, on a pallet or place wooden strips underneath boxes to allow for circulation
- DO NOT COVER WITH PLASTIC
- Place frequently used items toward the door
- Leave a walkway towards the back of the unit for easy access
- Label boxes and totes and make a reference list
- When storing bicycles or other metal items, wipe with a few drops of machine oil to resist rusting
- Disassemble beds, tables and whatever else can be taken apart to save on space
- Pack dresser drawer with linens or small delicate items
- NEVER STORE FOOD OR PERISHABLES
Helpful Packing Tips
- Pack one room at a time
- Label all boxes with the room it belongs in
- It is easier to pack on a tabletop
- Use wrapping paper or bubble wrap when wrapping fragile items
- Stand plates on edge, not flat
- Wrap fine china, crystal or glassware individually
- Use plastic totes or clear bags for packing
- DO NOT USE GARBAGE BAGS
- Label small items wrapped in plain paper to avoid them being thrown out by mistake
- Pack books in small boxes and lay flat to reduce stress on the box
- Turn outside furniture upside down to drain all water
- Pack as many items as possible in their original boxes
- Remember, everything you pack will need unpacking…so the more organized you are at packing the easier it will be to unpack!
